IMPACTFUL FILMS
TO WAKE UP A GENERATION
Born from the desire to create a distinct, sophisticated hybrid festival experience among an ocean of ordinary alternatives, it has quickly garnered attention. With a globally distributed team of dedicated and passionate individuals, the festival has made a mark with its commitment to showcasing the unique narratives of independent cinema.
In line with its tagline, the primary criterion for MAGMA’s awards is the impact of the film. The jury looks for films that can cause a stir, that can wake up audiences and cause them to reflect on, and perhaps even challenge, their perspectives. This focus on impact is multi-dimensional, encompassing both the immediate emotional response a film may evoke and the potential long-term effects on its audience's worldview. The festival thus values films that possess the power to erupt a metaphorical volcano of reactions and thoughts, ultimately aiming to awaken a generation to new concepts and ideas. |
JURYAt the helm of MAGMA Film Festival's 2024 jury, we proudly present a symphony of diverse talents: Ares Sirvent, an iconic beacon of indie films; Thomas Lunde from Norway, a connoisseur of satire and creative freedom with accolades from international film festivals; Ester Moyá, a gifted Mallorcan filmmaker with a penchant for documentaries and narratives that echo life's realities; Cameron Veitch, Canada's celebrated director known for powerful narrative works and notable music video collaborations; Jesús Plaza, a filmmaker whose 15-year odyssey spans Spain to South America, bringing home awards with character-driven narratives; Boris Schipper, a visionary who, after collaborations with musical legends like Lenny Kravitz, ventured into profound cinematic reflections; and Laura Martín, Madrid's dynamic talent who seamlessly melds drama, production, and scriptwriting, currently steering the ship at Moira Pictures.
